Joe Toscano (pictured), not the Melbourne fruiterer, but the semi-retired doctor, who plays a leading role in giving oxygen (that’s not an intended pun) to the anarchist conversation.
Dr Toscano, Joe or Joseph to his friends, is something of the everywhere man when it comes to anarchism as he is deeply involved with the Anarchist News Institute, the Public Interests Before Corporate Interests movement and broadcasting about anarchism on Radio 3CR.
What, you might ask, is a podcast about the climate crisis doing talking with an anarchist - if you listen to the interview, Joe says he has been an anarchist since he was 16 - Joe explains that anarchism is just another way of governing society and if you listen to Joe it quickly becomes clear that what is exists, the processes we have are not working.
Beyond the fact that we are pretty much locked into a potentially existential climate crisis, that we have violence, both practical and implied consuming much of the world and the world’s economic system promotes inequality and hands power to just a few people, suggests we should examine all the alternatives and so anarchism most certainly deserves examination and consideration.
